Chip Seal
Chip seal is a surface application used for protection, resuming and extending a life of an existing road or street.
Such kind of coatings are applied by laying and compressing the aggregates in suitable size and shape after application of liquid asphalt as a thin layer on a base layer or an existing coating layer.
Chip seal application should be preferred when the existing coating is deformed as not possible to be rehabilitated by slurry seal application, but not deformed as to require an expensive asphalt coating.
Chip seal creates a new abrasion surfaces as well as preventing the water penetrations to harm the road body.
It is quite common on low-volume road due to being economic. But, with the developing of technology and equipment, the chip seal became popular in residential areas and high volume roads.
